Sweet, Whole, 2019

Four, 45-minute performances presented in Pine Plains, NY in 2019.

Mothers fear for their children and in that way mothers are controlled.

The bondage began through milk -- a woman gives it and it is taken and turned. Medieval monks had visions of suckling the Virgin Mary to gain power. They used milk as the Eucharist. Christianity has been taught and transmitted by women, as it has been used against them. They are warm bodies used to placate, propogate, pregnate, produce.

What is maternal space in the church. Why do hymns hit my ear in my mother’s voice. What are the bonds of milk. How is it life/fear-giving. Why does my mother not sleep at night.

Performance as a part of ChaNorth International Artist Residency.

Soft power of a child over a mother

Soft power of religion over a convert

Soft power of a partner over a partner (in love)

Soft power of body over self

Soft power of man over land (tending)(destroying)

Soft power of words over ears

Soft power of music over memory

I sing twelve hymns through milk.
