Improvisations on a Female Threat

A collection of "threats" (visceral, process-based micro-actions) presented by a solo performer (Jocelyn Beausire), in direct conversation with a series of improvisations by solo instrumentalists. The string of consecutive, 10 minute events actively rework the idea of conduction by positioning the actions themselves as performative and emotion-laden, and placing the actioner on equal footing with the musician. In this way, the performer is the catalyst but by no means controller or conductor of musical ideas, the predetermination serving as their only power. Through the threats and improvisations, the events play with the positionality of the performing bodies, their relationship to each other, and their relationship with the audience.
